Have or create a YouTube Account. Any Google-accepted e-mail address will do.
Have writing materials, or some other way of noting down your answers and scores.
Join the Big Quiz live stream on YouTube on your TV, laptop, computer, tablet or phone.
If playing as a remote team, use WhatsApp, Hangouts or download the Zoom App for video teaming! Any group conference application will work, so you can all confer.
Have fun! There are no real prizes here, it's just something to do for a bit of entertainment!
All of the Live Quizzes are currently delivered via Live Stream on The Big Quiz YouTube channel.
Each Live Stream Quiz will have a unique URL link, or if a public quiz, will be visible on the YouTube Channel as a live stream and you will be able to simply watch the live stream and participate.
Whenever there is a quiz, all links, directions and times will be posted via Social Media, so keep an eye out and follow The Big Quiz on FaceBook, Instagram and Twitter as all of these platforms will contain the relevant link to the quiz. By being a Subscriber of the YouTube channel, whenever a public quiz is scheduled you *should* be notified by YouTube. You may also have to click the 'Notification Bell' on the channel near the Subscribe button.
Don't forget - you do not have to be watching, or taking part on your phone, but of course - you can do. You can also use most modern TVs to access the quiz via the built-in YouTube App, which works particularly well if you are playing with family members in the living room (you would need some way of typing your messages in the live chat though). You can also access YouTube on a laptop, computer or tablet device - whatever works best for you and you team, if you have one.
As I get more familiar and comfortable with the technicalities of hosting the quiz live, we may be able to incorporate some more elements. I am also experimenting with the Zoom App to deliver the quiz, but this has a certain amount of 'faff' involved. I think it is important to make the Quizzes as easy and as simple as possible to take part in.
Currently, each quiz is only played for fun - it hopes to be something fun and interesting to do whilst we are all in these exceptional times. However, at the end of each quiz there is a 'Kudos Quiz Winning' question, which will be won by the first person to answer the question in the live chat.
YOUTUBE - Create a free YouTube account (any existing account associated with Google will work). By having a YouTube (or Google) account, you can Subscribe, click the Notification Bell to be alerted to any up-coming quizzes and also comment during each quiz on the LIVE CHAT messaging, which all participants can see.
VIEWING - As each quiz lasts over an hour, it makes sense to be as comfortable as possible when taking part, therefore, accessing the quiz on your TV seems to be the best bet, otherwise - computer, tablet or phone is fine.
TEAMS - If you are playing as a team, then having a WhatsApp or Google Hangouts group, or something similar, can help you all confer - it's about having fun after all. You can even download the Zoom App now - even the BASIC free package is allowing meetings beyond the usual 40mins, so - you will be fine!
SCORING - You'll need a pen and some paper! I have looked at fancy fangled ways of having participants access an open Google Sheet online to enter answers and scores, but it is just too prohibitive to most players and would considerably extend the duration of each quiz, so - it's the old school ways for the time being! Each quiz remember is currently just for fun, so no prizes other than mentions on the stream are given out!
INTERVAL - After each round, the answers are given and the Picture Round shown for a minute or two, allowing for swift drink, food, or ablution breaks! With good timing - you won't miss a thing!
